Klaus Tschira Boost Fund

A joint program by GSO and Klaus Tschira Stiftung offering flexible funding and career development to promote researchers in the Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Computer Science.

Postdoc funding opportunity for scientists in the Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science
The program strengthens excellent scientists in the Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science through:
•    flexible funding – up to 120,000€ –
•    support in establishing (international) collaborations and networks,
•    targeted support and advice for professional and personal development.
The program aims to make the career paths of (younger) scientists in Germany more flexible, accelerate careers and promote early independence.

Research Grant of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities

Each year the Academy awards a limited number of research grants in order to support young scientists

The BAdW encourages international postdoctoral researchers who are working on

research questions related to current projects of the Academy or its institutes to apply
for a research stay in Munich with a stipend of max. EUR 20,000 in total during the fellowship period (three to six months).

Applicants should submit the following documents (max. 10 pages):

  • A project statement (not exceeding five pages) that addresses the
    central analytic question(s) and argument(s) of the candidate’s research
    project as well as any preliminary work. The statement should also clearly
    state the specific outcomes that the project is expected to achieve and how it contributes to research projects within the BAdW.
  • A detailed schedule of the proposed fellowship period including dates
    of anticipated residence at the BAdW.
  • Calculation of expected funding (max. EUR 20,000).
  • The candidate’s full curriculum vitae including a list of publications.
  • Full contact information, including email addresses, for two academic
    referees who should be able, if asked, to evaluate the proposal and the candidate.
  • Full contact information for the applicant including an email address

Helmholtz Investigator Groups

Aim: The program is aimed at junior staff whose academic age is two and six years. Periods of child-rearing that fall within the postdoc phase can be credited, as can other justified periods of absence. In addition, candidates must have relevant experience abroad: They must have worked internationally for at least six months, either during their doctoral or in the postdoc phase.

HALRIC Cross-Border Pilot Projects
The HALRIC partnership works to connect researchers, the know-how, and the complementary research infrastructures of the Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak-Hamburg (ÖKS-Hamburg) region to create a hub for Life Science research and innovation, which is at the forefront globally.
Between 2023-2026 the project consortium aims to fund 75 pilot projects with the following purpose: Accelerate the use of strategic research infrastructures in the ÖKS-Hamburg region by industry, hospitals, and universities. Connect researchers and research infrastructures within the ÖKS-Hamburg region.
Applications can be submitted on a rolling basis until 30 September 2025. Upcoming deadlines are 17 September 2024 and 28 November 2024.
Helmholtz Norway Data Science Exchange Program
Apply for the Helmholtz Norway Data Science Exchange
Calling all PhDs and Postdocs at Helmholtz interested in data science: Visit Norway and work on a fascinating three-month predefined project together with experienced data scientists at a Norwegian University. NORA – the Norwegian Artificial Intelligence Consortium and the Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy (HIDA) are partnering on this exchange.
Next round of calls for applications is expected to take place in fall 2024.

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship
The objective of PFs is to support researchers’ careers and foster excellence in research. The Postdoctoral Fellowships action targets researchers holding a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their careers. PFs help researchers gain experience in other countries, disciplines and non-academic sectors. The next call will open on 9 April 2024.
Joachim Herz Stiftung
We promote education, science and research in the fields of business, natural sciences and personal development. In addition, we promote innovative, application-oriented research at the interfaces between natural sciences and engineering.

Merck Research Grants
The Merck research grants program is open to scientists in all career stages who are affiliated with any research-based institution, university or company.
Research grants for up to 3 years in the areas of: drug discovery, real time testing and sensors, nanoparticles for nucleic acid delivery, digital innovation, bioelectronics, sustainability, media recycling for cultured meat, organoids.In 2023, a grant was available in the area of "Green Hydrogen - 1 grant comprising up to 200,000 €/year for 1 year with potential further collaboration." No scholarships will be available for 2024, please consult the website for future information.
GYA - The Global Young Academy
GYA was established in 2010 and brings together 200 members from six continents. The membership is comprised of passionate young scientists, typically 3-10 years after their PhD, between 30 to 40 years of age, and in the early stages of their independent academic careers. Members are selected for their scientific excellence and commitment to engage with society, and serve five-year terms.
