Wayfinding in Uncertainty – what to do when your professional path in academia or beyond seems unpredictable

The ground underneath our feet is shaking, the future seems to become less and less predictable – be it in academia or beyond. How can we deal with it and still feel safe if our usual methods of planning and managing don’t work that well anymore?

In this practical workshop we will explore proven strategies and attitudes that carry us through spaces of not knowing, ambiguity and uncertainty.

We will touch on Daoism, philosophy, indigenous wisdom and bodywork because we need to be able to use all our capacities – our intellectual, emotional and physical – to move confidently through uncertainty.

How to write a good post on LinkedIn

Using LinkedIn consistently increases the likelihood that you will discover new companies that you might not have otherwise known. You can connect with these businesses by following them as well as connecting with people who work there. Learn more about what they do and their culture through their profiles and content.

LinkedIn remains one of the most essential platforms to establish a professional online presence and showcase your skills and accomplishments. With over 930 million users (and counting), LinkedIn remains the go-to platform for recruiters, hiring managers, and professionals looking for potential candidates.

“Your LinkedIn profile is your digital brand,” says Lianne Zhang, a director of talent at Milestone Technologies. “I can't tell you the number of times where we had two equally qualified candidates and the one with the stronger LinkedIn profile got the job.”

Leadership in Science

Talk: Promoting Early Career Researchers – a Challenge between Excellence and Exhaustion

Leadership in science is now recognized as important, but still little acknowledged. Scientists in a leading role have a lot on their agenda. They know from personal experience what it is like to survive in the academic system which can be both rewarding and highly demanding. One of the challenges is to identify excellent researchers in early stages of their careers. It´s about supporting them adequately and pushing them to excellence including developing their scientific and personal skills. But this comes with a price. Here are some examples:

  • You see red flags when someone´s overwhelmed and at the same time you need this paper.
  • You encourage a postdoc to do excellent work and at the same time you know that the speed and intensity of their work could be potentially health-challenging.
  • You find yourself promoting a brilliant doctoral researcher to go to a conference and at the same time you know they have difficulties finishing their lab work.
  • You find a postdoc at your desk requesting to suggest them for an award and you know that their productivity is not the best.

Does that sound familiar? Come and join us for an inspiring discussion with our guests
